Pediatric Dentistry

Children first have their milk teeth (from approximately the 6th month) and later, from the age of 5 to 14 years, they are changed by the permanent teeth.

Many parents still think that it is not necessary to treat the milk teeth, as they are going to fall out any way. This is not true. It is very important to understand that deep beneath a milk tooth, in the same bone, there is a rudiment of the permanent tooth. So, if a milk tooth is affected or gets a fester, the permanent tooth under it is also injured. Later, the colour of the permanent tooth will be different, there might appear spots, unevenness of the surface.

When a tooth that did not get proper treatment in time starts aching, a child experiences a big stress, and he/she gets the fear of dental treatment. Besides, we should understand that the milk tooth with a fester is the source of infection. It weakens the whole body, wears out the immune system, as the body has to fight with the infection all the time.  The child becomes irritable, has frequent colds, illnesses, etc. Moreover, the premature loss of milk teeth may result into the incorrect occlusion. It is a frequent reason of orthodontic problems. The milk tooth reserves the space for the permanent one. Therefore, if a child looses the milk tooth too early, the new tooth grows in the wrong way, and later the straightening of such wrong teeth will take a long time and a lot of money. So, it is NECESSARY – not only recommended - to cure milk teeth!

It is important that parents would prepare a child psychologically before he or she visits the dentist. Besides, the parents should make sure that the child visits the dentist not with an aching tooth, but at first only for examination, for a conversation with the doctor. Prophylactically, children and parents should visit the doctor-odontologist every half year.
Nowadays, the treatment is absolutely painless, therefore it will not arouse bad memories for a small child. We communicate with the child all the time. The spot where the needle will stick is lubricated with anesthetic gel smelling like fruit. And only after that we provide the most up-to-date  and safe anesthetics. After cleaning the cavity of the caries, we recover the teeth in fillings of different colours, therefore children take such visits as games. After that they are eager to take care of their teeth themselves in order to avoid any cavities.

Prevention of pediatric dental diseases

•    Sealing of molar teeth of children
•    Application of fluorine
•    Professional mouth hygiene

Sealing of molar teeth of children

The caries (caries of children teeth) most often appears in the grooves of molar teeth. Hermetization of the grooves of teeth with sealants protects the most vulnerable parts of the teeth from decay. A sealant is a liquid filling material that fills in deep grooves of permanent molar teeth. In the grooves, that are covered hermetically, no food residues remain, they become easier to clean. Sealants are applied only on the grooves of healthy permanent teeth (molar or premolar teeth). We recommend to do it when the first permanent molar teeth emerge. The procedure is simple, quick and painless.

Application of fluorine

Fluorine is a very important element that determines the resistance of the tooth against the caries. The applications of fluorine help to retain the necessary amount of fluorine. The odontologist covers the tooth with fluorine. After the fluorine cover dries, it wraps up the tooth with a thin film that stays there up to 12 hours. During that time, the enamel gradually absorbs the mineral material. The tooth saturated in fluorine stays resistant to the tooth caries for 3-4 months. Seeking to protect the teeth from the caries at the maximum, it is recommended to repeat the applications time after time. The fluorine application is a simple and cheap way to cure the dental caries at its primary stages. The European Association of Pediatric Odontologists recommend fluorine applications as a cheap, accessible and effective means of prevention of the dental caries of children.

Professional mouth hygiene

The regular and proper mouth hygiene is a simple, cheap and effective way to avoid the dental caries of children. However, many children brush their teeth irregularly and incorrectly. It is a difficult task to teach children to brush their teeth correctly. It requires your patience, attention and constant control. However, your efforts are not always fruitful. Even if your children brush their teeth regularly, the quality of brushing is often not sufficient.
Professional mouth hygiene procedure will protect your child from dental and gums diseases.
